Dr. Annemarie O'Connor CPsychol, PgCert. BSc ClinPsyD
Annemarie is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health Professions Council. She is an accredited and chartered member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and of its Division of Clinical Psychology (DCP). She is also a member of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).
Annemarie graduated with First Class Honours and went on to complete her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at The University of Hull. She has extensive clinical experience in assessing and treating adults with a wide range of psychological difficulties and mental illness both within the National Health Service and the private sector (Harley Street, London). She is experienced as a clinical supervisor and continues to be involved in the training and supervision of psychologists, psychiatrists and CBT therapists.
Annemarie has held positions as a psychologist within specialist community mental health teams, inpatient settings, secure forensic services and prisons. She has worked as the Principal Clinical Psychologist within a Community Mental Health Team and has recently joined The Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma (CADAT), co-run by the South London and Maudsley Trust and the Institute of Psychiatry (King's College London).
Since qualifying, Annemarie has received post-graduate specialist training in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) and Schema Focused Therapy. She also holds a post graduate certificate in Applied Systemic Theory from The Tavistock Centre, London. She has current knowledge of child protection issues, safeguarding adult policy, The Mental Capacity Act, the original and amended Mental Health Act and both the ICD-10 and DSM-IV diagnostic manuals.
Annemarie is a reflective, enthusiastic and skilled practitioner utilising an integrative treatment approach. She provides evidence-based psychological assessment, formulation and treatment informed by various established models including Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive-Analytic Therapy (CAT), Dialectic Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution focused brief therapy (SFBT) and Systemic theory.
Annemarie can apply appropriate psychometric and projective tests to facilitate clinical assessment and formulation of client difficulties within their social, cultural and developmental context. More specifically, she is trained and skilled in providing assessments of mental health, personality, learning disability and associated needs, level of cognitive function and intelligence and level of risk.
Annemarie has vast experience in assessing and treating a wide range of diagnoses and presentations including: depressive disorders, anxiety disorders (generalised anxiety (GAD), phobias, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and perfectionism, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), social anxiety), behavioural disorders (e.g risk-taking behaviour), eating disorders, personality disorders (e.g. borderline personality disorder (BPD), antisocial personality disorder (ASPD)), psychosis (e.g. schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder (BAPD)) and other problem types such as emotional regulation difficulties (e.g. anger, self-harm) adjustment difficulties (e.g. trauma/abuse, grief), social communication and understanding difficulties (e.g. autistic spectrum disorders (ASD)), somatic problems, low self-esteem, stress, work stress, body image problems (e.g. body dismorphic disorder (BDD)), anti-social and criminal behaviour, and risk.
Annemarie's therapeutic style is active and collaborative and individually tailored depending on a person's needs and preferences. She has particular interest in anger, personality disorders, OCD and perfectionism. She enjoys formulating and treating difficulties in a creative and flexible way and she can tailor her input in terms of frequency, length, and intensity of psychological therapy.
