Dr. Lisa A Orban CPsychol PhD MA MScEd BSc


Lisa has joined us from New York City where she is qualified as a licensed clinical psychologist accredited by the American Psychological Association. She is a registered practitioner clinical psychologist with the Health Professions Council (UK) and is also a member of the British Psychological Society and the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies.

She has undertaken extensive clinical training as a scientist-practitioner in the United States, where she obtained her doctorate in both clinical and educational/school psychology from Hofstra University in New York. She also has Master's degrees in psychology from both Hofstra University and the University of Pennsylvania. Furthermore, Lisa has also obtained specialist training and experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Lisa's therapeutic style is active, goal-oriented and solution focused. She works in a partnership with her clients to apply treatment strategies to many challenging mental health issues, including bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, depression, anxiety disorders, anger, relationship difficulties, stress management, health and medical issues, obsessive compulsive disorder, self-injurious behaviors, body image issues, phobias, post traumatic stress disorder, conduct disorder, pica, eating disorders, sexual identity issues and gender identity issues.

Lisa is also fully trained and skilled in psychometric testing, including neuropsychological, intelligence, vocational, learning disabilities, and personality assessments.

Lisa has had many years of clinical experience with individuals, families, couples and groups in a wide range of mental health issues in diverse hospital and clinical settings. Most recently, she directed and provided mental health services at a community-based clinic of the State University of New York Downstate Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, where she worked with young adults with HIV and their families dealing with a wide range of mental health concerns. She also worked as a licensed clinical psychologist at the Bellevue Hospital Center in New York City, within the New York University School of Medicine. Working in the department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, she provided clinical services to youth infected and affected by HIV and their families and worked in program development. She also worked as a research scientist at NYU School of Medicine, where she managed a U.S. federal government Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)-funded multi-state intervention project to reduce sexual risk-taking behaviors and enhance quality of life of youth living with HIV.

Her current research interests include sexual risk-taking prevention, coping responses and protective factors, particularly among LGBT persons and young adults with HIV. She has co-authored several academic research-manuscripts published in AIDS Patient Care and STDs, and AIDS Care, and is currently co-authoring a book on adolescent relationship issues.

In addition to her professional activities, Lisa has extensive involvement in a number of volunteer endeavors. She served on the executive board of Sisterhood Mobilized for AIDS/HIV Research and Treatment (SMART) as the Executive Vice President, and continues to serve on their Advisory Committee. She has also served on a volunteer executive committee for the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR) for the past five years, and has volunteered for MAC AIDS Fund on their 'Get Tested' campaign. She also sits on the event planning committee for the Terrence Higgins Trust.

Lisa has also made several media appearances, such as BBC, ITV, Al Jazeera English and Arte TV, and has consulted for reality TV.

Lisa is a highly skilled practitioner and is passionate about both her clinical, volunteer and research interests.
