Dr Richard Doherty is a Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health Professions Council, UK. He specialises in the treatment of anxiety and depression using evidence based therapies, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). His approach to treatment is to provide time limited, focused and collaborative therapy to reduce distress and improve quality of life.
He graduated from Royal Holloway, University of London with a first class degree in Psychology. He has since completed a doctorate in clinical psychology and a further postgraduate diploma in CBT.
He also currently works for a specialist CBT service in primary care and has considerable experience in providing CBT for a range of psychological difficulties. He is an expert in the assessment and treatment of work-related stress, depression, low self-esteem, health anxiety, social anxiety, specific phobias, post traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and panic disorder.
Furthermore, he has trained at the Centre of Pain Education and provides specialist CBT input for chronic pain and emotional difficulties relating to a physical health condition. In his NHS role he is a clinical supervisor providing instruction on the delivery of CBT and he teaches on the Royal Holloway CBT diploma course.
