Dr Sara Szydlowski

Sara began her clinical training at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland and later obtained her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Royal Holloway, University of London. She also holds a post-graduate diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy awarded by University College London. Sara is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Sara has worked for the National Health Service for 10 years in a range of adult and child settings. She has experience of working with people across the lifespan with a wide range of difficulties including, stress, work-related stress, depression, anxiety, panic, health anxiety, low self-esteem, difficulties in decision making, relationship difficulties, domestic violence, women's health issues including infertility and miscarriage, parenting and adjustment to being a parent, sleep difficulties, pain management, illness adjustment, bereavement, dementia, autism, ADHD, trauma, emotional regulation difficulties and personality disorders.

Alongside her work at CPG, Sara is in post within Whittington NHS working with children, adolescents and parents experiencing a range of mental health difficulties within an Integrated Child and Adolescent Mental Health Team (CAMHS) and Adult Primary Care Mental Health Team (IAPT). Sara also volunteers her time to The Loss Foundation, a charity supporting those bereaved by cancer.

Sara's international education, together with her commitment to post qualification training, has allowed her to develop a truly integrative approach to working with individuals and groups. She draws on this knowledge to develop an individually tailored formulation for each one of her clients. She is heavily influenced by attachment theory, and mentalization based approaches as well as cognitive behavioural and third wave approaches, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy. Sara views the therapeutic relationship as the crux of change for her clients, and uses a collaborative style to quickly establish a safe containing space where a shared sense of purpose is created and clear goals are set and work towards.

Having been raised between the USA and Krakow, Poland, Sara has a particular interest in the similarities and differences between cultures and the process of adjustment and assimilation of different cultural experiences.

Sara is a genuine, warm and empathetic therapist. She is passionate about supporting her clients towards growth and higher levels of emotional resilience in order to live more emotionally healthy and valued lives.
