Leslie Lotz CPsychol BSc BSc MSc


Leslie is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist, registered and accredited with the British Psychological Society. She is a member of the British Psychological Society's Division of Counselling Psychology and is a Registered Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. She undertook her clinical training at Stellenbosch University, South Africa where she continued her professional development until she relocated to the UK in June 2008.

Leslie has gained extensive clinical experience over a number of years while working at the Stellenbosch University's Counselling and Psychotherapy Unit. She has gained invaluable expertise in adolescent and young adult psychotherapy, as well as individual, group and family therapy. Additionally, she has worked independently in private practice for several years, where she has developed specialist skills in adult psychotherapy. Furthermore, she has provided clinical supervision to several psychologists in training over a number of years. She has successfully qualified from training in the Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI).

Since moving to the UK, Leslie has continued to enhance her experience by
working within primary care as well as community mental health teams within
the National Health Services (NHS). She currently holds the post of Chartered Counselling Psychologist with South East Locality Assessment and Treatment Team, South London and Maudsley NHS Trust

Throughout her clinical experience, she has acquired specialist counselling and psychotherapy skills for the treatment of a variety of psychological problems and severe mental health difficulties, including: depression stress, work-related stress, anxiety, panic disorder, phobia, obsessive compulsive disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety, health anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder, eating disorders, low self-esteem, anger, psycho-somatic problems, relationship difficulties, body image problems, psychological distress due to physical illness, child sexual abuse, challenging personality disorder, sexual identity issues, trauma, suicidality and self-harming behaviour.

She offers brief and long-term psychological therapy and models her therapeutic approach to the needs of her clients. Her therapeutic approach is integrative, based on person centred (PCT), cognitive-behavioural (CBT), and transactional-analytic therapies. She is flexible in her approach in terms of frequency, length, and intensity of psychological therapy.

Leslie is highly experienced and skilled in providing a safe, trusting therapy environment that allows even highly resistant or anxious clients to come to terms with their difficulties.

Above all she values the individual as being the expert of their own lives, and interacts with her clients in a natural, respectful and deeply caring manner. She is an intuitive, containing, understanding and perceptive therapist/clinician.
