Therapy for children

What kind of therapy is it?

Child therapists might draw on a number of approaches, for example systemic, cognitive behavioural, mindfulness-based, and psychodynamic therapies.

How does it work?

The way the therapy works will depend upon the sort of therapy being used.

What will a typical session be like?

The content of sessions will vary depending on the type of therapy being used, but child therapists will always seek to create an environment in which a young person can feel safe and relaxed. Child therapists may engage with young people using non-verbal means, such as drawing and play.

There is a strong research support for the effectiveness of therapy for children and adolescents.
